Tornado hits Grand Bahama. There were three persons killed at the Container Port with several others who were injured. The property was damaged and other areas affected throughout the island.

Andre Birbal, Former Art Teacher at the Eight Mile Rock was wanted in the Bahamas for allegedly sexually molesting several former male students. He was extradited to the Bahamas and arraigned on several charges. The incident has resulted in various male teacher seminars in Nassau and the Family Islands.

Ryan Pinder (PLP) victorious for the consitituency of Elizabeth. After weeks of deliberation, the court Senior Justices' made their verdict. All five protested votes were casted in Pinder's favour. The picture shows his expression as well as the reaction of a supporter and his fellow colleagues upon being declared 'winner'.

"Israeli border police arrest a Palestinian youth during clashes in the Shufat refugee camp in East Jerusalem. Hundreds of Palestinians battled with Israeli security forces after Israel vowed to build 1,600 apartments in the city".
 
March 13, 2010 - Miami Herald

After a suicide attacker struck a security checkpoint in northwest Pakistan, an injured victim walks away from a burning vehicle. This photo was captured on site of the suicide bombing in Saidu Sharif, a town of Pakistan's Swat Valley. As a result scores of people were killed and dozens injuried.

Zahid Shahid, an eighteen month old child injured in a suicide attack, lies at a local hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. The expression on the subjects' face is filled with pain and sadness.

Store manager - Peter Joseph of Home Furniture Palmdale 'cuts own throat'. This is the second suicide in just under two weeks. Sgt Skippings advised persons who may be feeling depressed or suicidal to seek help.

An Indian navy plane giving off green colored smoke is seen performing aerobatics at an airshow along with other planes before it crashed into a building in Hyderabad, India. As a result, both the pilot and the copilot were killed and four people on the ground injuried.



March 2, 2010- USA Today

"Pakistani soldiers leave a captured Taliban cave complex in Damadola. Seventy-five local and foreign militants were killed during an operation that resulted in the capture of a Taliban and al-Qaeda headquarters near the Afghan border. The underground complex, which took five to seven years to build, totaled 156 caves carved into sheer rock with a clear view of the snowcapped peaks in eastern Afghanistan."

Parrot seen in Abaco. About five centuries ago, Christopher Columbus reported that, "the song of the little birds might make a man wish never to leave here." The Abaco population is unique because it is the only ground nesting in the Western Hemisphere (Inagua parrots nest in tree cavities).

A Tabernacle Falcons player goes up strong for his shot with the passion of a deceased teammate, Shaquille Hines. The team won against C.C. Sweeting Cobras hence the Falcons are the official Hugh Campbell Champions 2010.





February 22, 2010 - Miami Herald

A police man is seen looking at a car in downtown Funchal, the Madeira Island's capital almost buried with rocks and other debris carried by rushing water. This resulted after heavy rain causing flash floods all around the Portuguese Island. According to the Miami Herald, "The local government confirmed many dead."

February 19, 2010 - The New York Times

Evan Lysacek amazingly performed at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He earned a gold medal and also became the first U.S. men's skater to win in 22 years.

Deputy Prime Minister, Brent Symonette (FNM) and the leader of the opposition Perry Christie (PLP) greeted each other with a peaceful handshake. We all are one despite our differences!

Week 5



February 17, 2010 - The Tribune

Outside Thelma Gibson school was chaotic as many FNM's and PLP's gathered and stood around the area where the recount was taking place. Police officers had to form a human barrier on the scene to avoid passionate arguing supporters from both parties. Shortly after this, baracades were set up as a physical seperation, however this did not stop the shouting and noise. Eventually the crowd settled and continued to wait quietly for more news on the recount. 





February 16, 2010 - The Tribune

Flocks of FNM's and PLP's gather for their rallies the night before the Elizabeth Estates bye-election. Currently, as of Tuesday February 16th 9:45p.m. the PLP(1500 votes) is one point below the FNM (1501 votes) hence Dr. Duane Sands (FNM) is the unofficial winner. According to the Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, the bye-election can go "either way." He advised FNM supporters that, "we have not yet won." We wait to hear the official results after the re-count and other procedures are executed.

'A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer stands next to an Olympic flame ahead of the evening's medal presentations at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics in Whistler, British Columbia.' This picture caught my attention because of the angle of which it was shot and the distinct shades. Although the officer is standing next to the candle there seems to be a slight distance between them. I believe that the focal length and use of light by the photographer resulted in such a masterpiece.

A rare snow storm in U.S South has knocked out power to thousands and caused hundreds of accidents. Despite this, Tyrese Everett from Marlow, GA makes a snowman on his mother's car. He is fascinated by this because this was the first time he had seen snow.

 As seen in this picture, Executive Director of Bahamas National Trust, Eric Carey shows some of the litter that was dumped at the Bonefish pond. In the Bahamas we have a campaign going on, 'Clean, Green and Pristine' but are we really living up to this? By the picture being greyscale, it places less emphasis on the trash but we are able to see the abundance of it which brings a stronger message to its viewers. Let's be the difference today! "Stop dumping garbage in our protected areas"

Week 4





February 10, 2010 - The Tribune

It was quite interesting to see L-R The Worker Party, PLP, National Development Party and Bahamas Democratic Movement representatives express their views on why they should be the best candidate for the Elizabeth Estates Constituency. It was a lively debate, with these various parties all on one platform. Particularily, the representive for the Worker Party, Rodney Moncur who was quite expressive and made hilarious remarks. I was disappionted that the FNM party was not represented.



February 8, 2010 - The Miami Herald

This picture was captured in Gunsan, South Korea. 'A massive flock of Balkal teals fly over Geumgang Lake.' The scene is eye-catching and one of a kind.



February 7, 2010 - The Miami Herald
Many persons gathered on Sunday past to watch Super Bowl 2010. The picture was taken just in time and makes the game seem 'live and direct' from simply viewing this picture. A victorious Saints member almost got tackled by his opponent.

Officers remove one of the men shot in a suspected revenge attack. As I studied this photograph, I thought how many more murders will we face before this year ends? "Stop the violence, increase the peace."

The photographer made use of natural light and shot the picture in an angle that we can appreciate its composition. The lady has her hands raised symbolizing that she is still giving thanks despite the after-math of the earthquake in Haiti.
