Week 1

January 13, 2010- The Miami Herald

A lifeless hand hanging through a fence after the 7.0 earthquake. This picture caught my attention because the angle in which it was shot. The image speaks so loudly, a life gone in a matter of minutes due to nature. We can see how the environment has collapsed and it opens my imagination to the pictures that can not even be published by media.

January 14, 2010 – The Tribune

The above shows a man who was a victim of a police beating. He was accused of stealing but there was no evidence that he did. Although the gentlemen denied, the police threw water on his back and hit him with an electric switch. This resulted in an electric shock. The incident is evidence of corruption with our police force. This brutality was not called for and he does not deserve this treatment even if proven guilty. The picture/situation is an example of when people take the law into their own hands.

Friday January 15, 2010 - USA TODAY

The picture is from Haiti after the earthquake. In class, Mr. Z spoke about taking pictures in different positions. This picture seems to have been taken near the ground. The picture shows despair and hopelessness. What do you do when you have lost all you had and suffering from the lost of family and friends? The man to the far left caught my attention because by putting his hands on his head shows that he is close to giving up.

January 17, 2010 –The Miami Herald
Haitians gather in an abundance (the way the photo is shot, I was able to identify this) to receive goods. They are hungry and reaching out for our help.

January 19, 2010 – The Tribune

Grief beyond words. As I looked at this picture my heart became full. The woman’s expression is of disbelief.
